Who are FOBALS?

FOBALS are a group of regular library users who wish to help promote archive and local studies services in central Bradford, and to ensure the maintenance of those services and collections as centres of excellence. We have been in existence since 2013 when the old Central Library building was closed and evolved into Margaret McMillan Tower (City of Bradford Children’s Services). We believe we were influential at that time in ensuring the retention of archives and local studies, in new facilities, at the Central Library site. We can now be consulted if staff wish to hear the views of the public on any development affecting the library service, and we have provided volunteers for a number of their projects. We see our role as advocacy for the service and supporting our dedicated members of library and archive staff during what has been a most difficult period for them all.
